This past weekend, we decided to completely disassemble our current robot, Jack the Gripper. With it’s straight-line drive and ability only to pick up one block, it was nowhere near as efficient as we need it to be. Although we performed well at the Greenwich Academy Qualifier, the Suffern Qualifier really showed us where the flaws in our design were. We realize that the competition is going to be tough at both HV and CT Championships!
Our next design includes a holonomic chassis for maneuverability, a passive scoop that will be able to control four blocks at once, and a flag raiser mechanism on a corner so we don’t have to worry about getting stuck in the corner of the field. We will also look to install a block container especially for autonomous mode dispensing, since our current gripper would drop the block if not positioned perfectly.
