Today we hosted “Build A Bot” at the Patterson Library for about 30 children ages from 7 to 17. The event included construction of toothbrush bristlebots based off of the Evil Mad Scientist bristlebot tutorial and the Make building brushbot kits tutorial. Because we did not purchase kits, and instead of having the younger children solder, we designed custom 3D printed battery clips to hold everything together using PTC Creo.
In addition to the brushbots, we gave a presentation on real world applications of robots and a demo of our own robot. It was rewarding to see everyone take interest in robotics. Many students asked us where to find other good kits, parts, and what resources there were for starting robotics teams. Perhaps Hudson Valley will see some new FLL and FTC-ers? 😉
